02 - PROJECT LIVE | WORK
This site is located in the heart of Los Angeles, right next to MacArthur Park, we are required to design a building that contains the “live, work” environment, given that all storefronts should be artisan-based. I chose 4 different Artisans, Tattoo Artists, Leather Craftsman, Tailor, and Sugar sculpting artists. Each individual Artisan fits into the program of the design, some artisans like tattooing and tailoring don’t need much attention so they could be placed in the middle of the site, while the others can display their product and sculptures at the storefronts. Each artisan required a workspace and studio for them to work on their projects, so I decided to place all workshops in the basement, separating both store and studio. On top of the stores, The program required us to provide 8 residential units. I took inspirations from Barcelona Pavilion and Farnsworth's house and studied their circulation, I decided to use the way how both buildings were designed, Free plan and open spaces. With a different height of each program, I was able to achieve a circulation that is interesting while keeping the public area more opened and spacious.
