01 - PROJECT BOOKSTORE
The site Instructor gave us is located in the heart of Los Angeles, a neighborhood named Little Tokyo. The problem of this project is to design a building for a bookstore with different programs. I start the design by researching Japanese culture and their designs. After deciding the form of the Architecture I started to add different programs to it, such as coffee lounge, storage, cashier, etc. I decided to separate the volume into 4 different levels, including one loft area. Then, I separate the programs into 2 major parts, restaurant, and retail. The ground floor will be the retail area, and the 3rd floor will be both retail and coffee lounge, while there will also be a rooftop area for customers to sit and enjoy their books and coffee. The loft will be on the 2nd floor, which located on top of the restroom and storage area, this area will be retailing special books and there will be a sofa for people to sit on. I also decided to give the interior a more spacious feeling by opening the roof from the ground floor to the top due to the limited sqft of the building.
